Dog UTI

Dog UTI Information

My male 1 and a half year old jack russell terrier got his first urinary tract infection a few months ago. If I knew what I know now, I would have taken him to the vet sooner. I noticed a few things at first:

He wasn't drinking water like he usually does.
He started to have accidents in the house and a few times on the bed!
He whined to go out alot but when he urinated it looked like he was straining.
He started to act lazy.. and as soon as he started this, I went to the emergency vet (2 hours away) and paid $100 just for him to be seen.
I didn't see any blood in his urine though.

That emergency vet bill cost me around $400. I could've saved around $250 if I asked them to take the urine sample first but because I didn't know anything about urinary tract infections I had them run a few other tests too.

Had to bring him to the vet around 2 weeks later to have his urine rechecked to make sure the clavamox cleared up the bacteria. They found blood in his urine which was caused by bladder stones and was given other medication. That vet bill cost me around $200..

A few months later and he is still UTI free :) I make sure he drinks his water and gets his daily exercise and pee breaks. I also bought a bottle of Petalive UTI Free in case he gets another urinary or bladder infection and I can't afford to bring him to the vet (highly unlikely, but you never know!). I heard from a friend that Petalive UTI Free does work (see link below).
